Session Title Time Resolved Studies with Femtosecond X-ray Pulses: Towards Molecular Movies of Molecules at Work
Abstract The dynamics of molecules in their excited states has unique characters due to the pronounced interaction between electrons and nuclei involving several electronic states. In this talk, I will present our theoretical study on two intriguing processes, the ultrafast isomerisation of acetylene dication despite of ca. 2.3 eV of potential energy barrier, and the slow electronic relaxation of excited uracil molecule despite of the existence of conical intersection. These processes are studied experimentally using Coulomb explosion imaging and x-ray spectroscopy at LCLS.
