Abstract The crystal structure of nanoparticles as small as 10 nm is studied using hard x-ray photons from the LCLS.  Bragg peaks from xenon clusters ranging in size from 10 to 30 nm are collected and analyzed. The Hagena scaling law for cluster size is confirmed via analysis based on Bragg peak size. Clear evidence of fcc to fcc-hcp mixed phases for increasing cluster size is shown.  We present a possible mechanism for cluster growth and the formation of fcc-hcp structures is discussed.
